Ottawa, May 3, 2022 – The democratically elected leader of the Tibetan people Sikyong/President Penpa Tsering is leading a delegation to Ottawa this week with plans to advocate for Canada’s support of human rights in Tibet.
The weeklong program in Ottawa starts with a reception by Parliamentary Friends of Tibet, followed by hearings on Tibet at the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development. As part of reaching out to a broader group of Canadian civil societies and think tanks, Sikyong Penpa Tsering will speak at Canada’s leading national public policy think-tank Macdonald Laurier Institute.
The visit is happening around the 27th anniversary of the disappearance of the 11th Panchen Lama. Ven. Zeekyab Rinpoche – the abbot of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery will join Sikyong Penpa Tsering to testify before the Senate’s and the House of Commons committee on foreign affairs.
Canada Tibet Committee and Parliamentary Friends of Tibet are jointly organizing this week-long program in Ottawa.
