Ottawa, September 1, 2022: Representative of the Office of Tibet in Washington DC, Dr. Namgyal Choedup, called on Canadian parliamentarians, government officials, and think tanks this week to strengthen Canada’s support to resolve the Sino-Tibetan conflict.
The series of meetings over three days included meetings with Chair of Parliamentary Friends of Tibet MP Arif Virani and Vice-Chair MP Garnett Genuis in Toronto to follow up on the previous meetings and to plan the progress of Canadian parliamentary support to Tibet.
Accompanied by CTC’s chair Samphe Lhalungpa and director Sherap Therchin, Representative Dr. Namgyal Choedup also met with the senior officials from Global Affairs Canada to discuss the latest developments in Tibet, to call on Canada to co-sponsor a side event on Tibet at the 51st UNHRC Session, and to urge Canada to actively support to the creation of a conducive environment for the resumption of the Sino-Tibetan dialogue.
To strengthen Canadian think tanks’ support and interest in Tibet, Dr. Choedup met and discussed policies and strategies on common interest areas with the representatives of the Policy Insight Forum and Macdonald-Laurier Institute in Ottawa.
Concluding the series of important meetings in Ottawa, Dr. Choedup met with the President and board members of the Ottawa Tibetan Community Association to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing Tibetan students in learning the Tibetan language and culture.
