CTC\u2019s Research Associate Anvesh Jain hosted virtual discussions on Tibet starting from August 6th<\/sup> to August 26th<\/sup>, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A part of the series included virtual discussion with MP Garnett Genuis who at the time was co-chair of the Parliamentary Special Committee on Canada-China Relation. As one of the most vocal advocates for human rights and fundamental freedoms, Garnett has spoken out on Tibet issues at various occasions and is currently a vice-chair of Parliamentary Friends of Tibet. In the virtual discussion, Anvesh and Garnett explored the current state of Canada – China relations, Canadian participation at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, human rights diplomacy, religious freedom, and ways for the Tibetan diaspora to get involved in official Canadian political life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In another episode, Anvesh Jain hosted a virtual discussion with Samphe Lhalungpha, international development expert and CTC Chairperson. The virtual discussion delved into the latter’s experiences as a refugee in exile, his long career with various organs of the United Nations, and the past and present of Tibetan exodus and resistance against repression. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final episode of the series featured a virtual discussion with Jamyang Norbu, Tibetan writer, revolutionary, and political activist. Here, Anvesh and Jamyang explored the power of literature, literatures of resistance, life as a freedom fighter, secularism and the future of the Tibetan state, and the status of the global Tibet movement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
