Ottawa, July 28, 2023 – CTC extends heartfelt congratulations to the Honourable MP Arif Virani on his distinguished appointment as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada. Since assuming office in 2015, Mr. Virani has demonstrated exemplary leadership as the chair of Parliamentary Friends of Tibet Canada (PFT). Through his pivotal role within the PFT, he has actively championed the cause of human rights for Tibet and has been a steadfast advocate in the halls of Ottawa.
As a prominent member of the House of Commons, Minister Virani has consistently made significant contributions to raise awareness about Tibet and His Holiness the Dalai Lama, having delivered numerous impactful statements on the matter. Furthermore, he has facilitated important meetings for leaders from the Central Tibetan Administration with Canadian parliamentarians, further bolstering support for the Tibetan cause.
In addition to his legislative efforts, Minister Virani has also demonstrated a deep commitment to fostering meaningful connections between Canada and Tibet. Notably, he has been instrumental in hosting Tibetan interns in Ottawa each summer as part of the Parliamentary Friends of Tibet internship program, alongside other parliamentarians who share a passion for supporting Tibet.
