Activist-poet Tenzin Tsundue’s maiden visit to Canada

Ottawa, May 2, 2023 – Throughout the week-long series of talk programs organized by the Canada Tibet Committee (CTC) in Ottawa and Montreal, Tenzin Tsundue, a renowned writer and activist, addressed various critical issues related to the Tibetan struggle for freedom and independence.

During the talk program and discussion at Amnesty International Canada in Ottawa, Tsundue spoke on Tibet’s right to self-determination and independence from China. He highlighted the ongoing human rights violations faced by Tibetans and emphasized the need for international attention and support to address these injustices.

In his podcast interview with Professor Charles Burton, Tsundue delved into the complex issues surrounding Tibet and China, and Canada’s changing policies on China. He discussed China’s expansionist policies and their impact on global dynamics, emphasizing the importance of understanding these issues beyond the context of Tibet alone.

At the talk program and discussion hosted by the Montreal Institute of Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS), Tsundue addressed the intersection of human rights, conflict, and emerging technologies. He underscored the importance of protecting human rights in the face of advancing technologies and highlighted the specific challenges faced by Tibetans in this context. “Genocide is not just liking people physically. It is also killing their culture and language. This is what is happening in Tibet today.” said Tsundue during the talk program at MIGS.

During the engagements with the Tibetan Cultural Association of Quebec and Amnesty Internationale Canada Francophone, Tsundue focused on the Tibetan diaspora and the challenges of maintaining cultural identity and traditions in foreign lands. He stressed the significance of solidarity and support within the diaspora community to preserve Tibetan heritage.

Through his speeches and discussions, Tenzin Tsundue effectively highlighted the plight of Tibetans, the ongoing human rights violations in Tibet, and the importance of supporting Tibet’s struggle for freedom and cultural preservation. His words resonated with audiences, sparking meaningful conversations and furthering the cause of Tibet internationally.

Tenzin Tsundue is scheduled to visit Calgary and Vancouver next, with the purpose of raising awareness about Tibet and the pertinent issues it faces.
