Race for Rights – Background

Dave was compelled to embark upon this gruelling athletic challenge after hearing the Dalai Lama speak at last year’s public talk in Ottawa hosted by former Olympic Gold Medalist Mark Tewkesbury. Dave was motivated by the Dalai Lama’s message of compassion and non-violent struggle and wanted to deliver this message to Canadians through the simple act of cycling.

Dave has won medals in rowing at several international competitions and in 2000 he completed a round-trip cycle tour from Canada to Guatemala. At home in Kingston, Ontario Dave works at a worker’s cooperative restaurant and runs a home renovations business. Dave is a contributing member of the Kingston Unitarian Fellowship as a Sunday school coordinator and sits on various committees including Home Base Housing and the Kingston Environmental Advisory Forum.

The CTC is happy to support Dave in his mission with food, accommodation and moral support along the way. We invite you to cheer Dave on towards the finish line in BC!
